Geomechanics and pore pressure are vital for optimizing completion and production in unconventional reservoirs. Geomechanics helps design hydraulic fractures by understanding the stress regime, optimizing fracture orientation and propagation. It also assesses wellbore stability, reducing non-productive time and costs. Both geomechanics and pore pressure contribute to reservoir characterization, identifying sweet spots and understanding rock mechanical properties. They also assist in production forecasting, managing reservoir depletion, and designing enhanced recovery techniques like re-fracturing. This presentation will show the basic theory behind pore pressure and geomechanical modeling, challenges specific to unconventional plays, and case studies that highlight how, by integrating these analyses, operators can enhance completion and production strategies effectively.
